Simply use your ViaCord Collection Kit to collect your newborn's cord blood and tissue. Newborn Digestive Health and Newborn DNA Guardian services are done during our standard cord blood banking process.

On the day of delivery, give your ViaCord Collection Kit to your medical team for them to perform the collection.

- What is Celiac Disease?
According to the Celiac Disease Foundation, celiac disease is a serious autoimmune disease that occurs in genetically predisposed people where the ingestion of gluten leads to damage in the small intestine. Left untreated, celiac disease can lead to additional serious health problems.
- What is primary lactose intolerance?
Lactose intolerance is a reaction in your digestive system to lactose, the sugar in milk. It causes uncomfortable symptoms after you eat dairy products that could include intestinal gas, stomach pain and cramping, and diarrhea. According to the Mayo Clinic, primary lactose intolerance is caused by diminishing lactase production in your small intestine. Genes determine how likely you are to continue to produce lactase, the enzyme that helps you digest lactose.
- How much DNA is stored with DNA Guardian?
About 200 Microliters is stored and a little over 100 Microliters is typically required to run a genomic test.
- How are cord blood and cord tissue different?
The difference is in the type of stem cells found in each source. Cord blood is a rich source of Hematopoietic Stem Cells (HSCs) which are responsible for creating all types of blood cells that build and maintain our blood and immune system including red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. Cord tissue is packed with Mesenchymal Stem Cells (MSCs) which have a natural anti-inflammatory and regeneration properties have the potential to develop into various types of cells, including bone, cartilage, muscle, and nerve cells.
- Can I do this if I want to do delayed cord clamping?
Yes! The timing of cord clamping is a personal decision that should discussed your healthcare provider. Cord blood and tissue collection start after the cord is cut, whenever that is. If your cord blood sample doesn't meet our recommended minimum to store, we’ll let you know. Delayed clamping doesn’t affect cord tissue collection.
