ViaCord Collection Instructions

Please strive to obtain the cleanest and largest collection possible. Every cell counts! The following are best practices for optimizing the stem cell collection:
 

  1. Use the provided Prep Pads to thoroughly clean the cord prior to inserting the needle into the cord blood vein. This thorough cleaning will reduce the risk of positive microbial.
     
  2. Start the cord blood collection immediately after cutting the cord and allow sufficient time for the bag to fill by gravity, until the flow of blood into the bag stops and the cord appears white.
     
  3. After the cord blood collection is completed, please collect as much cord tissue as possible by clamping the cord at its insertion point to the placenta and cutting off the full length of the umbilical cord to send to ViaCord. Wipe the entire cord clean, from end to end, with cleaning materials provided in the kit prior to placing it in the collection cup - again to reduce the risk of positive microbial.
