What to Expect When You Bank Your Umbilical Cord Blood with Viacord.…

When You Enroll
 

Soon after you enroll with ViaCord, you'll receive a welcome package with enrollment papers and your collection kit. You can also download your enrollment forms from our website. It's important that you complete and return your enrollment forms as soon as they arrive, even if you've already enrolled over the phone. These documents include a consent form for testing, a contract, and health history questionnaire. The easiest way to return your forms to us is by faxing them toll-free to 1-866-565-2243. Then, keep your collection kit with your prepacked hospital luggage as a reminder to bring it along and call our 24/7 hotline when you’re on your way to the hospital at 1-800-998-4226.

You will also want to speak with your doctor beforehand to make sure that they are aware that you will be storing your baby's cord blood with ViaCord. Everything the hospital needs for collection will be in your ViaCord kit. The process is simple and can be performed by any doctor or midwife.

At the Hospital
 

On your way to the hospital, have a friend or family member call us at 1-800-998-4226 (the number is also printed on the outside of your kit, on the wallet card from your welcome brochure, and on your ViaCord bracelet). You will also want to talk to your labor-and-delivery team to outline your needs. This is particularly important if the labor runs through a shift change of medical personnel. If you are not comfortable with this step, call ViaCord anytime, day or night at 1-800-998-4226 or speak to your doctor.
