The Collection/Banking Process

At ViaCord, we've made the process of cord blood collection and preservation easy for you and your patients. Expecting parents contact ViaCord, preferably late in the second trimester, though ViaCord can accommodate parents up to two weeks prior to delivery. ViaCord provides expecting parents with a cord blood collection kit, along with easy to follow instructions.

ViaCord notifies your office of the planned collection. Trained representatives are available around the clock seven days a week, to answer questions regarding the collection procedure. Expecting parents bring the cord blood collection kit to the hospital when they go into labor.

The process of collecting the cord blood is easy and only takes about five minutes. A simple gravity feed method is used. The collected cord blood sample is then picked up at the patient's bedside by a courier trained in handling medical samples, and transported to ViaCord's cord blood preservation facility where it is tested and then cryogenically preserved.
