Hi I'm Mia Hamm,
Being part of the Women's Soccer Team that won multiple world championships will always hold special meaning in my life.
But there are other very important things to me as well - my family, being a mother and my foundation, the Mia Hamm Foundation.
A focus of the Mia Hamm Foundation is to help families in need of a bone marrow or cord blood transplant. The reason I am so passionate about this is that my brother Garrett passed away from
Aplastic Anemia, a disease that is treatable with cord blood or bone
marrow stem cells.
We made the decision when our twins were born to save their cord
blood with ViaCord, knowing first hand the role cord blood stem
cells could play in a family's life. Saving the cord blood was a decision
that was right for our family and one that gives us great comfort.
I encourage you to learn about the benefits and potential of saving
your newborn's cord blood with ViaCord and make the decision
that's right for your family.
Watch the video to learn more.
Best wishes for you and your family.

* There is no guarantee that the cord blood will be an appropriate or effective treatment. Although the potential use of umbilical cord blood is expanding rapidly, the odds that a family without a defined risk will need to use their child's umbilical cord blood are low. There is no guarantee that the umbilical cord blood will be a match for a family member or will provide a cure. As with any transplant therapy, therapeutic success depends upon many factors beyond the stem cells themselves including patient condition, type of disease, recipient-donor relationship and matching, and other factors.
